I was saddened to hear this news of an artist who was larger than life(and his art work). Ian had a great passion for art and I am sure the art world will need time to recover from his loss! This website is a great testament to him and his life! Thank you!
I went to University with him and enjoyed his ever present need to make art! Plus his crazy sense of humour! Godspeed Ian.

I'm going through a strange mix of emotions right now. I was excited to find this website - and then greatly saddened to find out that my old friend has passed away.
Ian and I attended the University of Windsor together through the early 80's.
I loved the guy - and his work. wow.

Hi Ian,

I've never written a message here. But, I know you've heard my messages, heart to heart. Wherever you are right now in your Infinite Journey, you still hear our messages. At your memorial in Durham, I said that "a heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved, by others." (it wasn't original, it was the Wizard to the Tin Man, Wizard of Oz.) I look forward to seeing you when my transition takes place. It will be good to be with you again. I can't wait to see what you've been creating, and what deep ideas you'll want to share with me, just like the old days. Thanks Ian.

Ian,
I teach in the classroom beside the art room at GV and everyday I am reminded of the times that we spent together with Cathy in the office. With GV closing, it seems like I will be leaving you behind but that will NEVER happen. I am a few years wiser and a few years sadder since last we saw each other. I miss you and Brent beyond words. You were such a big part of my life.and, still are in many ways. Everytime I get peeved at work, I can hear you saying.relax, I would have done the same thing. You were and continue to be a source of strength in my life.

I realize this is not the exact anniversary. It was the Thursday of March Break. I was supposed to go visit. I didn't. Then I found out you were dead. Your death has affected so many people. As expected, I see fewer and fewer people post here. GVIS is closing in June. I have not forgotten. I miss you as much now as I did the day I found out. I will always carry some guilt. Maybe I deserve to. Maybe I don't. Regardless, I miss you. March Break has not been, nor will it ever be, the same.

I can't believe it's been four years. Time sure does fly by. There is so many things in life that you taught me. Not only in my art but also my life.

I'm in my second year of my BFA at UOttawa & things are looking great for me. Especially in sculpture. I learned how to weld last semester. I thought of you the whole time. Although I messed up a few times, I promise to get better.

Whether it be welding, painting, sculpture made of value village clothing or drawing you'll always be one of my biggest inspirations. You'll always be in my thoughts when I make my work. You'll always be in my thoughts during many times of my everyday life.

You'll forever be one of my biggest inspirations and I'll be forever thankful for everything you taught me.
